“Boys In Blue” get important point thanks to goals from Lovel Palmer, Brad Ring

INDIANAPOLIS (June 3, 2017) – In their second trip out west since the season opener, Indy Eleven earned another point on the road in a 2-2 draw with the San Francisco Deltas.

A back-and-forth first half began with Eamon Zayed getting the first shot off in the opening minute of the match. Breaking into the Deltas defense, the Irishman tried to fire away a snapshot, but he couldn’t get the proper connection to test Peiser and the first chance went missing. For the hosts, their first chance of the evening came in the 15th minute as defender and captain Nana Attakora attempted to blast one past the defense but he could only win a corner.

As the west coast side settled in, they had chances in the 23rd and 25th minute that both went begging, largely thanks to the play of Indy ‘keeper Jon Busch, who made four huge saves on the night. The best effort of the opening 45 minutes came in the 32nd minute of Deltas forward Tom Heinemann. Positioning himself dead center of the box, Heinemann powered a header at goal that Busch was able to put over the bar for a corner.

After the break, Indy and San Francisco wasted no time ramping up the action. In the 56th minute, Lovel Palmer opened the scoring thanks to a cool finish from inside the box. As Indy continued to hold their line defensively, a quick free kick late in the second half ended up doubling their lead. Defender Nemanja Vukovic struck quickly for Brad Ring, and the midfielder beat Peiser with a flashed effort at the near post.

However, in the 85th minute the hosts pulled one back off a solid strike by Cristian Portilla following a set piece. Indy would have a couple of chances in the final few minutes, but it would be the Deltas who would spoil the party with a last-gasp goal. In stoppage time of the second half, substitute forward Devon Sandoval headed home off a set-piece to level the score at two a piece where the match would end.

Indy Eleven returns home to IUPUI’s Michael A. Carroll Stadium to host Jacksonville Armada FC on Saturday, June 10 at 7:30 P.M. ET.
