HISTORY vs. FC EDMONTON:
After splitting their three games right down the middle in 2014, Indy Eleven and FC Edmonton have followed the same script in 2015, splitting their first two contests to reach equal 2W-1D-2L records in their all-time series.

After dominating Edmonton in historic fashion at “The Mike” 3-0 during its Spring Season finale in June, Indy Eleven would fall in its only trip to Alberta 0-2 back in early August … see the recaps section below for the full details on both contests.

Saturday vs. FCE                        7:30 p.m. ET
August 5, 2015 @ FCE                 0-2 L
June 13, 2015 vs. FCE                 3-0 W

July 27, 2014 @ FCE                   1-0 W
May 10, 2014 vs. FCE                  1-2 L

INFIRMARY UPDATE:
Indy Eleven is almost free and clear on the injury front, with only forward Charlie Rugg’s sports hernia issue popping up on this week’s list besides Kleberson’s long-term Achilles issue.

Midfielder Dylan Mares is back in consideration for major minutes after recently coming back from surgery on a torn right meniscus performed on July 31; his brief cameo at the end of Indy’s 3-0 win over JAX on Sep. 5 marked his first action after missing seven contests.

Fellow midfielder Sergio Peña is officially off the injured list after recovering from surgery to correct compartment syndrome in both legs in late May.  The Honduras continues to work himself back into full fitness but could be available for limited minutes off the bench for interim coach Tim Regan.

DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME:
Indy Eleven lost a prime opportunity to shoot up the standings following last weekend’s loss. However, despite sitting in 10th place in the Combined Season standings, the “Boys in Blue” could still equal FC Edmonton in sixth place and be within a game of the coveted 4th place spot – the final preliminary berth in The Championship postseason format, currently held by Fort Lauderdale (click here for the full NASL standings). Here’s how that could happen:

  • Indy Eleven defeats Edmonton (win by 5+ goals would move Indy into 6th place, any less margin would result in 7th place, even on 28 pts. with FCE)
  • Atlanta ties Carolina at Silverbacks Park
  • Ottawa defeats Fort Lauderdale in So. Fla.
  • Tampa Bay loses/draws at home vs. San Antonio
  • Minnesota-New York game has no bearing

HOME SWEET(ER) HOME:
After going winless in its first 12 home games at Carroll Stadium in 2014, Indy Eleven has since gone 6W-4D-3L in its last 13 outings at “The Mike” – starting with last year’s two wins to close out the home slate. Thanks to its 3-0 win over Jacksonville on Sep. 5, Indy has surpassed the .500 mark during its 2015 home slate, its record at Carroll Stadium now sitting at 4W-4D-3L (17 GF / 14 GA).

Two of Indy Eleven’s three shutouts on the season have been recorded the last two times out at Carroll Stadium – the aforementioned Jacksonville win and a 2-0 victory over Tampa Bay on August 19.

WHO TO WATCH, INDY ELEVEN EDITION – MF BRAD RING & MF DANIEL KELLER

Defensive midfielders generally don't end up on the scoresheet and, therefore, generally go unrecognized. But someone's gotta do the dirty work, and for the last three contests coach Regan has decided to let veteran Brad Ring and rookie Daniel Keller be a two-headed monster in that capacity in front of the back four.  What they may lack in the traditional #10 type "playmaking" category they more than make up for in tackling and making smart decisions on and off the ball. That said, it will be interesting to see if one is able to pick his spot in pushing up the field and providing numbers in attack on a more aggressive basis in front of the home crowd ... against a physical team like Edmonton who could be had on a counter, that type of intervention on offense might just be necessary.

WHO TO WATCH, SCORPIONS EDITION – MF LANCE LAING

Having started in all of last year’s games against Indy Eleven, FC Edmonton midfielder Lance Laing received only a yellow card in the box score for his troubles in three tilts between the two teams in 2014. But after a stout season with FC Edmonton last year, Laing has returned to form for the “Eddies” and has already tied his totals from last year with seven goals and six assists - both ranking in the NASL's top five in those categories - while appearing in 17 games (16 starts). Laing skipped Edmonton's first trip to the Circle City in June while representing Jamaica at the Copa America in Chile, but the "Boys in Blue" are plenty familiar with him from their August meeting north of the border, as he set delivered the corner kick on Albert Watson's opener and set up Tomi Amoebi's PK in the second half.
